A
Message From The President
Dear
Friends,
As
you may be aware, David Dibner, who in 1989 succeeded his father
Bern in leading The Dibner Fund, died quite suddenly in September
2005. Since David's death, his wife, Frances K. Dibner, has
served as chairman of the Fund and has presided over an in-depth
review and evaluation of the Fund's mission and organizational structure
in order to determine the best future for this family foundation.
The
result of this process, which actually began prior to David's death
and involved third-generation family trustees as well as non-family
members of the board, is a decision to continue the Dibner family
legacy of philanthropic giving through four newly created family
foundations. Upon the completion of this restructuring, The
Dibner Fund will cease to exist.
The
Dibner family is very proud of the valuable contributions made by
The Dibner Fund over nearly fifty years of philanthropic involvement.
During this period great advances were made in the field of the
history of science and technology and in science education, some
degree of human suffering was alleviated through the Fund's commitment
to humanitarian aid and programs in peaceful coexistence, and quality
of life was enhanced through support of environmental efforts and
programs celebrating the vibrancy of Jewish heritage and culture.
With
this change currently underway, The Dibner Fund is no longer accepting
grant proposals. The staff of The Dibner Fund is completing
commitments to current grantee organizations and will spend the
next few months terminating operations with the expectation of concluding
The Dibner Fund's work no later than December 31, 2006.
We
wish you the best of luck in your valuable efforts and we thank
you for your interest in The Dibner Fund.
Sincerely,
Marci
B. Sternheim
